List item number 2 requires a little bit of preparation: From a standing start and very little physical activity, I have to somehow get prepared for the SMH half marathon on 19 May 2013. I plan to celebrate my 30th birthday by beating my May time in the Gold Coast half marathon on 7 July 2013. I clearly have a long way to go!

The following table is designed to keep track of my progress towards those goals. The plan is to run every Sunday, Tuesday and Friday if possible (with an optional cross-training day on Thursday) for the rest of 2012, then kick into an official training program early in 2013. I’m hoping that this public forum will help me stick to that plan. I should point out that Andy has run every step alongside me (or a little bit in front…) up to this point. I only hope that Dane is bracing himself in a similar way since he’ll be running it with us! Shelley I’m also looking at you my dear! KLo is aiming for the Gold Coast halfer. Chez-bo? KRowe? Clubba? Anyone else? It’ll be quite the family affair! Fortuitously, by doing this I will also be ticking off a New Years resolution for this year: “Make exercise a habit”. Up till now, that resolution has only extended to an ad break worth of planking and an ad break worth of sit-ups any time I am home to watch Dr Phil. Beats ironing anyway. So, who’s up for a Bay Run?

I did it! Okay, so I didn’t quite hit my goal, but I came pretty damn close. Something to strive for next year perhaps?

Note: I removed the ‘Calories burned’ column because it was too inaccurate and too difficult to keep track of. Since it is not really a factor in why I am running, that information will not be missed! I think I can just safely assume running at all is doing me good 🙂 The “Wedding Diet” can take care of the rest!

  1. It’s the 13th Feb!!! I’ve noticed a running hiatus….. quick go for a run before Andy buys you a box of Choccies for Valentines day. Andy…. youre welcome!! (Just incase you forgot)
